payne. we welcome our viewers who are watching us around the country on wgn america. wgn's nancy loo has been following the story and joins us live outside the woman's home in the south shore neighborhood. >> reporter: well, as you might guess, this incident is the talk of the neighborhood and residents are split. some are siding with the woman who open fire on two yuck children while other -- young children and others say she took things too far. regardless, chicago police are siding with her. the 68-year-old elderly widow who lived alone in this small home is staying behind closed doors today. and through a friend she is requesting privacy. >> she is emotionally distraught. she doesn't want to talk. she wants to try to find a way to take care of the damage that the children caused. >> indeed, windows are broken and loose bricks are on her property. she told police the 12 and 13- year-old boys now charged had broken her windows and returned later to throw bricks at her. that's when she pulled out a gun and opened fire hitting the 12-year-old in the arm. neighbors say the same boys had b

our viewers who are watching us around the country on wgn america. wgn's randy belesomo is live outside the 18th police district with details. >>> good afternoon. the man is now being held here in the 18th district lock up after police caught him raping the young woman. sources tell us that he terrorized his victim. the incident happened at 11:30 last night at 1100 block of west dicons near depaul. police say the attacker is 19 years old. lives on the south side and sources say he has been known -- is a known sexual predator. victim is a 28-year-old woman. her neighbor called police when he found a purse on the back stairway of their apartment building. when police arrived they noticed an open wingdo and found the woman being raped inside. we spoke with the sister of the young man who called for help when he spotted the victim's handbag. >> what he thought it was maybe someone stolen the purse, came back here to go through and then left and then he saw the window and wasn't sure why that was kind of creepy. >> reporter: the woman was transported to northwestern memorial hospital

here who are watching us around the country on wgn america. federal investigators have been watching hassoun for a year and a half. as wgn's jay miller reports, some of his albany park neighbors are stunned by the news after the arrest. >> reporter: people here in the 4700 block of north kedzie are in absolute shock. they say 22-year-old sami samir hassoun seemed like a normal guy. they say he was a nice guy. however, federal officials say he had a dark side and a deadly plan. one that included killing mayor daley. >> i was in shock. i could never expect that from him. he didn't look like that kind of a man. >>> eva works a few doors down from this man. 22-year-old sami samir hassoun who was arrested saturday in wrigleyville after allegedly plotting to set off a bomb as hundreds left the packed rock concert just after midnight. >> he didn't look like that kind of a person. >> reporter: but according to the fbi, he was that kind of person. officials say a year long investigation says he had plans to blow up willis tower. set off car bombs around the city and kill mayor daley so an ass
